Christmas Linocut Printing Workshop
08 December 2024 10:00 to 16:00
Step into the festive spirit with our Christmas Special Workshop at Caisson Gardens, where we’ll craft personalised holiday cards and gift wrap using the traditional art of linocut printing, led by the very talented and award winning print-maker, Jemma Gunning.
What is a lino print?
A linocut is a printmaking technique where a design is carved into a sheet of linoleum with carving tools, leaving the raised areas to be inked for printing. Linocuts are known for their bold lines and graphic qualities, making them popular for creating high-contrast images. Once the linoleum block is carved, ink is applied to the surface with a roller, ensuring even coverage. Then, paper is placed on top of the inked block and pressure is applied either by hand or with a printing press, transferring the ink onto the paper. The result is a printed image with crisp lines and textured.
